Join Future Newent Community Action Group on “THE WALK” to highlight the fact that 2,000 residents in Newent have signed our petition to tell FODDC to reject the outline plan by Robert Hitchens to build 375+ houses on prime farmland outside of the town boundary.
Join us to send a clear message that any future development around our small rural market town needs to be led by the community, not by a quick profit for developers.
Truly affordable homes that suit the needs of local people who will contribute to the community and economy is what people have told us they want, not an overdevelopment of 375+ houses packed in tightly, which would only become a Dormitory for people traveling by car outside of Newent for work and shopping.
Our services and infrastructure are overstretched and struggling to cope with the number of people here now, over 1,000 more people would have a detrimental effect on everyone’s quality of life and wellbeing.
If you care about our community and want to help shape the future of Newent Join us at the traffic lights on the grass verge/lakeside on SATURDAY 9th SEPTEMBER at 11.30 to walk through town to the proposed site which is on the fields opposite the petrol station. To emphasise the message that we want Newent to grow as a COMMUNITY, not a DORMITORY we will be wearing pajamas, you can too but it is optional.
